Attendance
Policy
Weekly
attendance at rehearsals is essential in order to be a member of the Inland Valley Youth Symphony. Each
musician and their family are given a list of rehearsal dates, concert dates and sectional rehearsal dates for the year. Before
final acceptance into the orchestra, each musician must agree to all attendance guidelines.
Ø No more than three excused absences are allowed during any one-concert preparation period (August through the winter
concert and January through the spring concert). In order for an absence to be excused, students must submit a request in
writing and/or email (douglasbast@inlandvalleyyouthsymphony.org) to the Artistic Director at least two weeks prior to the absence date.
Ø More than three absences will result in dismissal from the
ensemble.
Ø No more than one unexcused absence will be allowed during any one-concert preparation
period (August through the winter concert and January through the Spring Concert)
Ø More than one unexcused absences during any one-concert preparation
period will be reseated in their section. An unexcused absence is any non-emergency absence that is not
reported two weeks prior to the beginning of the rehearsal.
Ø More than three unexcused absences during any one-concert
preparation period will be excused from the ensemble. Final determination will be made by the Artistic Director, Assistant
Artistic Director and Music Director.
Ø All musicians must sign in prior to the start of each rehearsal. Failure to sign-in at rehearsal
will result in an unexcused absence.
Ø Any musician who misses a dress rehearsal will forfeit participation in that concert unless the absence is due to illness,
family emergency, graduation, college entrance exam or is for mandatory school band or orchestra performance for which the
student receives an academic grade.
Ø In order for an absence to be excused, students must submit a request in writing and/or email (douglasbast@inlandvalleyyouthsymphony.org) to the Artistic Director at least two weeks prior to the absence date. Under special circumstances the
Artistic Director may excuse a student from dress rehearsal for reasons other than those listed above.
Ø
A musician who
misses a concert for any reason other than severe illness or family emergency will forfeit their chair in the orchestra.
Ø In order
for an absence to be excused, students must contact the Artistic Director by phone (951-345-8935) prior to the concert time.
Ø Any
musician who is excessively tardy or requests excess early departures from rehearsal may forfeit their chair in the ensemble.
Excessive is defined as more than three tardies or early departures during the concert session.
Ø All
musicians are required to stay for the duration of each concert they participate in. If a student leaves early from the concert
it will count as abandonment and will result in being dismissed from the ensemble.
Ø
Final determination will be made
by the Artistic Director, Assistant Artistic Director and Music Director.
Practice and Participation Policy
Practice and Private
Teachers: It is the responsibility
of each student to practice the music consistently and effectively in preparation for performances by the Inland Valley Youth
Symphony. We strongly recommend the help of a private teacher in developing necessary technique. If you are interested, we
can provide a list of names of private teachers in the area.
School Participation Rule:The Inland Valley Youth Symphony requires all students to be enrolled in their school instrumental music programs (when such
programs exist) in order to participate in our symphony.
